Adedamola Adeniyi After a six-year hiatus, Godge (Chris Vogagis) has dropped another epic-themed release, this time exploring the darker manifestations of human thought in Uncertain Futures. Through Vogagis' work in Wide Eyes, I view Uncertain Futures as Oneironaut's older and twisted cousin, involving heavier elements in the Uncertain Futures trilogy and To Dissociate and Deceive. This fusion of melodic and progressive metal should be on anyone's purchase list who is craving a deep dive into the inner mind. Favorite track: Dreaming Inside Of A Locked Room.

about

Greetings, all. I’m happy to announce the full-length follow-up release to my debut EP “Carcosa.”

I present to you: “Uncertain Futures”

The original idea/concept for this release came about 14-15 years ago. At the time, I had a lot of ideas for songs, but they didn’t really “go” together in the sense of style/genre and overall feel. Therefore, I wanted to record all of the songs as they were initially intended and release them on a few separate EPs. There were four main musical concepts behind the EPs, which were: a progressive metal EP, a mellow, relaxed rock-sounding EP, a technical death metal EP, and an EP that had blackened metal influences and gave off evil vibes.

I decided to stick with these original ideas, but they all ended up on the same release this time around. I even decided to utilize some parts of the 10+ year old songs and embellish them into what’s heard on the album. I wanted to make the album thematically linked, with ideas from the heavier songs spilling over into the mellow songs but with a more relaxed feel. Conversely, some elements from the mellow songs made their way into the heavier songs, but with specific changes to up the aggression. This led to an album that ended up being a roller coaster of emotions ranging from feeling content with oneself to loathing oneself and wanting/needing to lash out. Since you never know where the album is going to go next, it made me think of one of my favorite concepts: a multiverse comprised of an infinite amount of possible realities and futures. Thus, the album’s final concept came to fruition:

This album depicts an aural representation of what goes through the mind of someone burdened with mental illness as they grow to distrust their own self and their thoughts. Every day has become an uncertain reality with no clear path in sight. Thoughts that were once good have been contorted to fit into a bad mindset. Thoughts that once seemed mentally detrimental have cloaked themselves in positivity and false promise. Unable to trust in one’s true being, each day has become an unrelenting onslaught of misery, disorientation, misanthropy, and nihilism.

Sit back and try to relax. Enjoy this one hour and 18-minute roller coaster as you are shifted back and forth from comfortability and peace to unease, discord, and distress.

Enjoy! 🤘🏼😈

Guitar/Bass/Drum/Synth Programming, Mixing & Mastering by Chris “Godge” Vogagis

All songs composed by Godge

Sections of “It’s Loud In There” & the “Uncertain Futures” suite co-written with Bryce Seditz of Give Me The Grave & Plaguewielder

Sections of “Cold, Detached, & Unsound” co-written with Anthony DiGiacomo of Encircle

Clips heard in “Uncertain Futures” are from Season 1 of True Detective. Since the Carcosa EP was inspired by this amazing show, I wanted to use these quotes to show how cold and detached, yet brutally honest Rust Cohle is and how it relates to the themes of this album.
